| "Bobby Brown Ends 2008 on a Good Note!"
Sunday was the last race of the year for Bobby. He drove his Brabham BT35 in the Monoposto race, finishing second overall. His friend and racing rival Bobby Rahal won the race. There was action galore during the event with Bobby starting sixth and finished second. There was slipstreaming and out braking going on every lap. The Monoposto Group 2 seems to be the most watched race group these days with times and driving so close you do not know who is going to win until it is all over. The season started at the HSR event at Watkins Glen in June with Bobby driving his Ralt RT4. Finishing first in the 2 litre class after a great race with west coast driver Bill Fickling, Bobby turned a very respectable 1:49.7 in the race. The second race of the year was at Elkhart Lake in July. Driving his Brabham BT35 in the Monoposto Group 2, Bobby won the Formula B class turning a 2:20.9 during the race. That time was outdone by another competitor in the Formula 2 Group with a much more powerful motor. The third race was to be at the new Thunder Bolt race track in New Jersey. During Thursday's test day a mechanical issue developed that could not be repaired for the race, so that was a lost weekend. The fourth race of the year was at the Glen again where Bobby drove both his Ralt RT4 and the Brabham. In the morning race Bobby again won the 2 litre class driving the Ralt in the Boss Group. Bobby's luck was not as good in the afternoon race. After out gunning everyone into the first turn, Bobby spun coming out of the toe of the boot, rejoining last, he soldiered on to finish sixth. The last race was at Atlanta as stated above. 2008 was a good year for Bobby. Not doing as many races as he would have liked to have done. None the less, it was all great fun and very enjoyable. 2009 will mark Bobby's 50th year racing, having started in 1960 driving a Corvette in driver's school at Thompson, CT, Lime Rock, CT, Vineland, NJ, Marlboro, MD and Watkins Glen, NY. Next year, hopefully Bobby will compete on seven tracks that exist
today where he has had much success. They will be VIR, Mt. Tremblant,
Quebec, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, Lime Rock, Connecticut, Watkins Glen,
NY, Mid Ohio, Ohio and Road Atlanta, Georgia where Bobby competed in
the very first professional race held there in 1970 driving the McLeagle
in the Can Am race. It is also the track where he won the SCCA National
Championship in 1976 driving a Formula B March. |
